If you're going to make something for an RPG, you should make one for the battle scenes first. The fight music should all be something heavy and angry, like real music to fight to. It should be really fast as well. Not too many rpgs have good battle music.

The battle theme will be something that'll take some time. The hardest song to write for any RPG would have to be the battle theme.

Good enough to make you wanna kill stuff, but not so annoying that once you hear it 4 or 5 times you'll be pressing the mute button

*cough*Blue Dragon Boss Battle theme*cough*

Find out what kinds of RPG music you like, why you like it, and go from there. There are so many different kinds of RPGs out there, and they need music to match, so you've got options. The other main thing to consider is keeping your music unique from what is already on the NGAP.

Keeping it unique is definatly the idea. However I'm actually looking to see what ideas you guys have. I'll compose the songs from your ideas.

For most RPG moments a fight scene has music that is upbeat, but not heavy metal. Turn based games usually have insturmental almsot alternative rock peices while action games stick with the same theme throughout i.e. Zelda.

Exactly, so depending on someones idea, I'll have to almost place it in a catagory and go from there.

Hmm..... Against what everyone else is saying, I wouldn't mind hearing some town music, or maybe music from inside an inn or something. THAT'S IT!

I'm thinking, something like the sound of muffled laughter, talking and music, the sound of an opening door and then all the background noises fade away and then the music begins, that could take about 10-15 seconds... Then the real music begin's something akin to the music from the WoW inn's but not a direct rip cause that would suck. Anyway's, after the main melody, (which'll be your idea's seeing as i'm not to good at the whole main melodies bit) then the music should fade away again, as if the character is going upstairs into a bedroom, then, as you do in RPG's, you rest for about 10 seconds as some twinkly music plays and then that's it over.

Sooooo...whaddaya think?

I think it's a great thought, however, if you've ever listened to the Chrono Trigger: Brink of Time soundtrack you'd hear that the very first track does exactly this.

What's funny is that it's exactly what you described too.

How about something traumatic.... for like a major turning point in the story. Starting with the suspense and confusion of not really knowing what's going on and working into something kind of... enraging/exciting.

EG: The character finds out that they've been deceived and reaches the place where they're finding out the truth.

I like it so far. Give me some type of quick story behind your made up characters so I have something more to work with. More about the situation too. I know you're creative! =)

So far, your idea will most likely be the first track I work on.

something modern would be nice

RPG music is the best music. <---Fact

Maybe you've heard the song "You're Not Alone" from FFIX? It's kind of a sad song. But it's the BEST FRIKKIN' SONG I'VE EVER HEARD! I would kill for a remix of that one.

But seriously, a good start would be to listen to all the good RPG music you can find *cough*Nobou Uematsus all records*cough*, and gain inspiration from there. Also, a "desert" theme would be awesome.
